Microficton: Dollhouse

 


Drabble: 

    Flora moved the dolls throughout the dollhouse as if she were putting them in their places. Flora seldom played with the dolls. She only moved them from place to place on schedule, every day. She never seemed to even enjoy playing with the dolls, the furrow on her brow made it seem like this was work. This was a part of her daily duties. Flora seemed more concerned about moving the dolls. Some dolls disappeared, and other appeared without her putting them there. Some dolls moved out of the house, and new doll family sets would arrive. A new family to control in the simulation. 

6-Word Story: One day you will be forgotten.

Authors note:

I was inspired for my drabble to write about the show The Haunting of Bly Manor where a little girl uses the dollhouse to know where people are in the large mansion. It is a great show on Netflix that I highly recommend. I wanted to write a spin-off of that story. The 6-word story is something that I am incredibly fearful of, but also was inspired by the show for. In the show, many of the ghosts are faceless because they are forgotten about. The imagery of this is incredibly powerful and so, although simple, I thought would make for a good short story.

    I loved the story you wrote. I really enjoy how you were inspired by a show to create a 6 word story. It really stood out to me and definitely made me realize that is 100% true. One day you will be forgotten, and one day we will ALL be forgotten. I'm glad I came across your page. I can't wait to read more.

    I really loved your story! It was so well written! Once I read your six word story, I was taken aback. I was not expecting it to be so deep, but like Logan said, it’s 100% true! We will one day be forgotten, and I think that is a big fear for a lot of people. Nicely done, thank you for sharing!

    Hi Mikayla!

    I knew exactly where you had drawn your inspiration from before I even read the Author's Note. I also really enjoyed "The Haunting of Bly Manor"! Have you seen its sister tv show, "The Haunting of Hill House"? I like it even better. This story was very well written and you did a good job of giving Flora that serious determination that makes her playing with dolls into more work than play. Excellent work!

Topic Brainstorm

  Topic Brainstorm: The Women of Indian Epics:      So, part of the reason I am so interested in the women of Indian epics is because of how they are classified, categorized, and how they are talked about. I also saw a lot about this topic in the previous topics, as well as the readings. I think that there is plenty of resources online and through the course, material to learn plenty about the topic, such as  The Women of the Ramayana . I think that there is a lot to learn from the perspective of women throughout Indian literature, folklore, and stories. I have some previous knowledge on this topic from a World Literature class, but my knowledge is limited.
