Reading Week 7: Mahabharata Part D

Yay! A story that features an animal as an integral part of the story. This story features starvation and how a starving family gave all of their rations of food to feed their guest. Even a small child gave up her food to their starving guest. After that, the guest finally arose and made it apparent that it was Dharma. Because of the families' sacrifice, they were blessed from then on. The mongoose had warned the family, appearing as such: "A mongoose, half of whose body was golden, appeared and said, "Ye kings, this great sacrifice is not equal to a little measure of powdered barley given away by a liberal brahmin of Kurukshetra, who was observing the unccha vow." I think that I could effectively recreate this story as a tale of good faith and giving those what you do not necessarily have. I think this story tells a very valuable tale that could easily be adjusted into being a fable for children to digest and learn to give to those whenever possible.

Introduction to a Women's Wrestling Coach and Future Teacher

Introduction to a Women's Wrestling Coach and Future Teacher     Hey everyone! My name is Mikayla Chandler. I am a secondary language arts education major going into my senior year here at OU. In addition to being a full-time student, I am also in my first year of coaching wrestling. Although I am a coach on a team of boys and girls, I primarily focus on my attention on the ladies on the team. Although I chose to not wrestling in college, I spent the majority of my life around wrestling and was competitive from ages 10 to 18. I was born and raised here in Norman, so it has always been a dream of mine to obtain a degree from OU. I have one dog but would certainly love to get more. Her name is Verona and she is a Lab/Pitbull mix that showed up one day and never left. One of my major interests is in American Sign Language; I took two years in college and I wish I could afford to take more classes. I love knowing another language, it makes me feel more connected to the worl...

Topic Brainstorm

Topic Brainstorm: The Women of Indian Epics:      So, part of the reason I am so interested in the women of Indian epics is because of how they are classified, categorized, and how they are talked about. I also saw a lot about this topic in the previous topics, as well as the readings. I think that there is plenty of resources online and through the course, material to learn plenty about the topic, such as  The Women of the Ramayana . I think that there is a lot to learn from the perspective of women throughout Indian literature, folklore, and stories. I have some previous knowledge on this topic from a World Literature class, but my knowledge is limited. The Animals of Indian Epics:      I am very interested in how Indian Epics use animals for storytelling, to convey a metaphor, and as actors to tell "grown-up stories". After reading  Animals of Indian Mythology  I figured that there must be cultural importance to certain animals, as ...
