So, with all of the craziness in the world, I really struggled to think of my favorite place. Something that was really difficult during the pandemic was not leaving my house. I was forced to accommodate my own "stir-crazy" needs, so I had to make my home a place that was conducive to my academic success, mental health, and comfort. Luckily I had one good friend and my boyfriend to quarintine with, but it was difficult to be stuck at home when I knew I was missing several trips that I had planned for the summer. I had to make my home my dream home, I had to have it organized perfectly, clean, and well decorated. I am lucky enough to have a bit of a savings account, so fortunately I had some spare money to spend on new decorations that promoted peace and tranquility. I never knew how expensive throw pillows and wall art is, but hey, Ross and Amazon does the job. I also had to make sure that my home was appropriately set up for me to be able to finish my classes from the previous semester, as well as the summer. I had to form a strict schedule with myself, but also I had to forgive myself for staying in bed somedays. Over quarintine I learned a lot about myself, how I can flourish in my own home, and what can help to mitigate my anxiety around leaving the house. Overall, this is why I have chosen my home as my favorite place (at least for now). Last semester in the Mythology / Folklore course I chose Hong Kong as my favorite place I had ever been, but this semester, it did not feel right to choose a vacation spot as my favorite place.

I totally hear you about the comforts of home, Mikayla! Even for me, working from home, it was still strange to be at home ALL THE TIME. (Because of risk factors, my husband and I are still minimizing any/all activity outside the house...). So, I maniacally reorganized all my books and even bought some new bookshelves. Which was dangerous, because then I bought more books to put on the shelves, ha ha. Anyway, I feel so lucky to have a place where I can both relax and feel safe at home; I am glad you do too!
